Welcome to O Dear Lord's Snippets

Snippet #1

O Dear Lord,  I write to Thee with trembling hand and a heart so heavy it doth weigh upon me like the wet clay of our south field after a hard April rain. My husband, Mr. Thomas Hensley, and our eldest boy, Caleb, who shall not yet see his nineteenth year until September next,  have gone off to serve in Mr. Lincoln's Army of the Ohio these past four months, and I confess to Thee, Dear Lord, that I do not know how much longer this poor woman can bear the weight of what has been left behind. There are two little ones yet at home -- Ruth, who is seven, and the boy, Samuel, who is but five and already asks each morning at the breakfast table, "Mama, is Papa coming home today?" Snippet #2

O Dear Lord,  My name is Grace and I am 7 years old and I go to Hillcrest Elementry school and I am in second grade and my teacher is Mrs. Kowalski and she says I am a very good speller but I am going to be honest with You becaus I know You already know everything so there is no point in not being honest and some of these words I am not sure about. First I want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for my puppy. I have been asking for a puppy for two whole years which is a very long time when you are seven becaus when you are seven two years is like almost your whole life practically. I have been very patient and I did not complain very much except sometimes and Mom said I complained a lot but I do not think that is accurate and I think You probably agree with me because You see everything and You know I was mostly patient. I named him Biscuit. I want to tell You about the name becaus this is important. I wanted to name him Jesus becaus I got him on Your birthday and I thought that would be a nice thing to do for You and I also thought it would be funny when I called him to come inside becaus I would have to yell JESUS COME and the neighbors would look around. But Mom and Dad said absolutely not and said...
